Overview:
One of Indiana’s premier winter birding experiences! This tour focuses on massive concentrations of gulls at the Elkhart Landfill, and/or the lakes around Notre Dame's campus in South Bend. These locations differ based on gull numbers present at the time of tour. With two potential locations we will maximize our total species potential, offering chances to study Arctic and rare gull species rarely found inland!

American Herring Gull
Iceland Gull (Kulmlien's, Thayer's, and Glaucoides)
Lesser Black-backed Gull
Great Black-backed Gull
Glaucous Gull

Vega Gull
California Gull
Slaty-backed Gull
What to Expect:
Pace & Difficulty: Easy but focused birding
Photography: Excellent with long lenses
Habitats: Active landfill environment, Lakes, and Rivers
Walking/Driving Balance: Mostly stationary observation
