Spring is migration season in Indiana, when birds pour northward and diversity peaks. These tours are fast-paced, exciting, and filled with song, color, and movement as habitats come alive across the state! Spring tours are ideal for birders looking to experience sheer abundance, sharpen identification skills, and witness Indiana at its most dynamic.Â

What will you see this Spring?
Spring comes early in the birding world, with mid-March specialty species including Smith’s Longspur, and Vesper Sparrows, LeConte's Sparrows, and Lark Sparrows come April.
Secretive wetland birds like King Rail, Virginia Rail and Sora Rail can aslo be found in Spring in wetlands across the state.Â
As migration intensifies, Indiana becomes a hotspot for warblers, with all 34 regularly expected spring species possible during peak weeks. We will target some of the harder to come by warbler species such as Mourning Warbler, Connecticut Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler, and others.
Flycatchers will also be abundant at this time, species such as Olive-sided Flycatcher, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, and Alder Flycatcher will be targeted
 The treetops will also be alive with vireos, with targets being Yellow-throated, Philadelphia, Blue-headed Vireos, and more!
The canopy can be an excellent place for viewing migrating Cuckoos, with targets being Black and Yellow-billed Cuckoo
The forest floor will be patrolled by migratory thrush species such as Hermit, Veery, and Gray-cheeked Thrush!
Spring also offers exceptional shorebird migration, especially in flooded fields, mudflats, and wetland complexes. While we target all expected shorebird species, special emphasis is placed on finding standout birds such as both Dowitchers (Short-billed and Long-billed), Hudsonian Godwit, Wilson’s Phalarope, Red-necked Phalarope, White-rumped Sandpiper and more!Â
